Three Rivers Petroglyphs, Roswell Aliens, Bottomless Lake & the Eclipse

On recommendation from mom & dad we headed to the Three Rivers Petroglyphs. A nice hike and some very cool "old" graffiti as Dave calls it.   There are more than 20,000 of them here in this area from over 600 years ago. Don't worry, we didn't take pictures of all of them!

On to Roswell, the city that Close Encounters was filmed about. The aliens were so friendly! We totally did the tourist thing and went to the only Spaceship McDonald's as well as the International UFO museum.

The actual prop used in the movie of the "alien".
More props from the movie. The museum had tons of information about the actual "siting" and government documents about the incident. If you are a believer then this is certainly the mecca to come to. We had a fun day of it but as you can see below, Dave wasn't getting too close! 😄

Significantly way more "up our alley" was the Bottomless Lakes State park where we went kayaking. Apparently in New Mexico 90' deep is considered bottomless.😁 They might want to come visit some of the lakes in Michigan.

It was a beautiful day and towards  the end of it the water was almost like glass. It was a pretty little lake and now we can say we've kayaked in the desert!

2023 Solar Eclipse Map - 2023

So here we are in Roswell and we just happen to be in the path of the eclipse! The guy in the motorhome next to us drove all the way from Indiana to see it and we just lucked out by being here! It was pretty cool to watch. My camera (with my fancy glasses over the lens) didn't capture it very well (to the right) but the image below is what we did see when we looked thru our glasses. The moon covers the sun but not entirely so you have a ring of fire.

On to Texas next and Big Bend National Park; I can't wait to see what awaits us there!  Solar eclipses 2023: When is the next solar eclipse? | Space

Was the trip planned to be in the path of the eclipse or was that incidental?

I'd like to say we planned it but honestly it wasn't on our radar at all, just a coincidence!
